Trump says 'would love' to serve third term as US president

By law, Donald Trump’s second term as president is set to end in January 2029

WASHINGTON, October 13. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said he would like to run for a third term as US president if he had the opportunity.

"I would love to do that," the Associated Press quoted him as saying while addressing Republican Party supporters in Ohio ahead of the November US congressional elections as the crown broke into chants of "four more years."

By law, Trump’s second term as president is set to end in January 2029. The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution, which was adopted in 1951, limits a president’s tenure to two terms. Nevertheless, the current US leader has repeatedly indicated the possibility of seeking re-election for a third term. Steve Bannon, the president’s former key political strategist, also insisted last fall that Trump be president again.

Trump won the election for the second time in November 2024. He defeated Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris. He previously headed the US administration from 2017 to 2021.
