Ukraine’s ex-PM slams Zelensky’s remarks on truce for elections as unserious

This is a perfect pretext for him to do nothing to be re-elected, Nikolay Azarov said

MOSCOW, October 12. /TASS/. Ukraine’s former Prime Minister (2010-2014) Nikolay Azarov has criticized Vladimir Zelensky’s statement that Ukraine needs a 60-day truce to hold elections, calling it unserious.

"He has said this more than once. This is a perfect pretext for him to do nothing to be re-elected. First, 90, not 60, days are needed under the electoral legislation. But in fact, it doesn’t matter whether it is 60 or 90 days - he will not wait and will find a pretext or provoke it. Listen, this is a regime that is indulging only in these things: terrorism, deceit, corruption, provocations," he told the Rossiya-24 television channel, commenting on Zelensky’s demand for a 60-day truce to hold elections.

Commenting on Zelensky’s statement, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Russia does not "need a ceasefire but a lasting peace that will endure for generations.".
