UNITED NATIONS, September 22. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen signed an agreement under which the United States assumes responsibility for the island's security, according to a broadcast of the signing ceremony by the White House press service.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Earlier, Trump said the United States and Denmark had reached an agreement under which Washington would take control of Greenland's security. He noted that the US would immediately begin expanding its military presence on the Arctic island.
