Ruling party wins 78% of seats in Tajikistan's parliament

A total of 220 candidates, including 65 self-nominated candidates, competed for 63 seats in the lower house

DUSHANBE, March 3. /TASS/. The ruling People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan, whose leader is the country's President Emomali Rahmon, has won 49 out of 63 seats (almost 78%) in the lower house of the newly convened parliament following the results of the March 2 elections, Tajikistan’s Central Commission for Elections and Referenda told TASS.

Voting was conducted under a mixed system: 41 deputies were elected from single-mandate constituencies, and another 22 from political party lists. A total of 220 candidates, including 65 self-nominated candidates, competed for 63 seats in the lower house.

According to the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda, the ruling party won 12 party-list seats and 37 single-mandate seats. The party currently has 47 seats in the parliament.
