WASHINGTON, November 21. /TASS/. Ukraine has already lost the conflict and US President Joe Biden’s decision to authorize the use of US weapons for attacks inside Russia will not change the situation, Daniel Davis, a retired US lieutenant colonel, said in an op-ed for The National Interest.
"It doesn’t matter how many long-range missiles we give to Ukraine. Those alone will not change any dynamic on the battlefield. <...> The war is lost for Kiev," he pointed out.
Davis also noted that "continuing to ignore reality" would only increase "the ultimate cost of losing" the conflict for Ukraine. "What Biden is doing now, however, is worse. He is risking an expansion of the war, potentially drawing the United States into direct conflict with Russia," the expert emphasized. According to Davis, "this decision represents a serious and unnecessary danger to the United States - while simultaneously raising the chances of a Ukrainian defeat."
The New York Times reported on November 17, citing sources, that Biden had authorized the use of US-supplied ATACMS missiles to launch attacks inside Russia from Ukraine. Meanwhile, the US administration has not made any official statements to either confirm or deny these reports. Top EU diplomat Josep Borrell, in turn, said that some European Union countries had also allowed Ukraine to use their weapons for strikes deep inside Russia. Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned on November 19 that Moscow’s revised nuclear doctrine provided for a nuclear response to the use of Western non-nuclear missiles against Russia. Earlier, Peskov noted that Western countries’ decision indicated "a qualitatively new phase" of tensions.
