US admiral says Washington should be ready for talks with Russia, China

The Department of State and other US agencies "should continue to engage our competitors in real and substantive dialogue," Rear Admiral Thomas Buchanan said

WASHINGTON, November 21. /TASS/. The US should hold a dialogue with such countries as Russia, China and North Korea, as no one wants a nuclear war, said Rear Admiral Thomas Buchanan, a senior member of the US Strategic Command.

He made the statement at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (designated undesirable in Russia).

"We should always be ready to have a conversation because, in large measure, conversations bring people to a table to talk about common values. Nobody wants a nuclear war, right?" the spokesman said, when asked how the US should respond to actions of their potential adversaries such as Russia, China and North Korea.

The Department of State and other US agencies "should continue to engage our competitors in real and substantive dialogue," he went on to say.
