CHISINAU, February 10. /TASS/. Moldovan President Maia Sandu has accepted the resignation of the country’s government led by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita.

"I have taken note of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita’s resignation," Sandu wrote on Facebook (banned in Russia as it is owned by Meta Corporation designated as extremist by the Russian authorities).

"According to legal procedures, I will hold consultations with parliamentary factions following the prime minister’s resignation, and then I will name a candidate for prime minister," she added.

Earlier on Friday, Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita announced her resignation, which, under the country’s constitution, means the resignation of the entire government.

Moldova’s Party of Action and Solidarity formed a cabinet led by Gavrilita in August 2021 after winning a snap election. In June 2022, opposition protests broke out in Moldova. The demonstrators are protesting against an unprecedented rise in energy and food prices, as well as against declining living standards. The authorities are also facing criticism over political pressure on opposition members.
