Unidentified disease kills over 140 in DR Congo

The disease, which comes with flu-like symptoms, including fever and severe headaches, infects primarily women and children

PRETORIA, December 3. /TASS/. More than 140 people have died from an unknown disease in Kwango, a province in the southwest of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Reuters said, citing local authorities.

According to Remy Saki, the province’s deputy governor, the disease has killed 143 people, with the number of those infected continuing to grow. The disease, which comes with flu-like symptoms, including fever and severe headaches, infects primarily women and children.

A medical team has been dispatched to the area to help those infected and try to identify the disease.

The authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo have notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the disease.
