Moscow talks on Afghanistan call for inclusive government in Kabul — diplomat

The presidential envoy stressed that the participants of the Moscow talks were not trying to impose their view on the Kabul government of what they think the administration’s composition should be

MOSCOW, November 16. /TASS/. Participants of the Moscow consultations on Afghanistan voiced their unanimous support for setting up an inclusive government in Kabul, Russia’s Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov told journalists on Wednesday.

"The general tone of all the statements [delivered by participants at the talks in Moscow] was identical and nearly 100% the same," the Russian diplomat emphasized.

"We all see the situation in Afghanistan the same way, and we all unequivocally support the formation of an ethno-politically inclusive government in that country as soon as possible," Kabulov added.

"Now, the question is how to achieve this objective," the envoy continued, adding that the consultations in Moscow were important to show the authorities in Afghanistan that its friendly countries were ready for further cooperation, but also appealed to Taliban [outlawed in Russia] members to consider their steps.

The presidential envoy stressed that the participants of the Moscow talks were not trying to impose their view on the Kabul government of what they think the administration’s composition should be.

"We are talking here about simple things that are acceptable in any other country," Kabulov added.

The diplomat also pointed out that when the Afghan authorities form an inclusive government, it will be possible to address human rights issues in a practical rather than a rhetorical way.
