Iranian Security official calls to create institutions with Russia to combat sanctions

CAIRO, November 9. /TASS/. Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani stated the importance of establishment of joint institutions with Russia for fight against Western sanctions during the talks with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev in Tehran Wednesday.

According to Shamkhani, "it is important to establish joint and integrated institutions to combat sanctions," as well as to "activate the capabilities of international organizations to counter countries that impose sanctions." Overall, the Iranian official noted the importance of the bilateral cooperation amid the harsh restrictions imposed against his country.

"Expansion of bilateral and regional economic cooperation, especially with our neighboring states, is one of our country’s strategic priorities," he said.

Shamkhani added that, in order to more efficiently utilize the existing trade and economic potential, it is necessary to strengthen the cooperation on regional organizations’ platforms - the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in particular. The Iranian side also considers it important to develop relations with Russia in energy, transportation, agriculture, trade, banking and environmental protection.

Patrushev arrived in Iran on Shamkhani’s invitation. According to the Russian Security Council press office, he will hold Russian-Iranian consultations that will involve representatives of several ministries and agencies of both countries.
