Russian ambassador summoned to Polish ministry over expulsion of Polish diplomat

According to Poland’s web portal Onet, a Polish consul in St. Petersburg was declared persona non grata

WARSAW, February 5. /TASS/. Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergei Andreyev told TASS on Friday he was summoned to the Polish foreign ministry following Russia’s decision to expel a Polish diplomat for participation in unauthorized rallies in Russia.

"I was summoned to Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz, who expressed disagreement and protest of the Polish side following the Russian authorities’ decision to declare a Polish diplomat persona non grata," he said, adding he explained to the Polish side the reason for the move. "Our views on the actions which had triggered this measure against the Polish diplomat differed. We did come to any agreement on that," he said.

"My vis-а-vis called on the Russian side to review its decision. But is has already been taken," he noted. "He warned that otherwise the Polish side, obviously upon agreement with European Union partners, will have to take reciprocal measures."

According to Poland’s web portal Onet, a Polish consul in St. Petersburg was declared persona non grata.

According to earlier reports, a Swedish, a Polish, and a German diplomats who had taken part in unauthorized protests in Russia on January 23 were declared personae non grata. Diplomats from these countries’ embassies on Friday were summoned to the Russian foreign ministry, which made a protest.
