Russia plans to allocate over $141.51 mln for Arctic, Antarctic research through 2029

In addition, $27.12 mln will be allocated to developing the state environmental monitoring system in the Arctic

MOSCOW, October 9. /TASS/. Russia’s draft federal budget for 2027-2029 allocates more than 12 bln rubles ($141.51 mln) for polar expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctica, Russian Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Konstantin Tsyganov said at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources, and Environmental Protection.

"In September 2024, polar expeditions began aboard the new ice-resistant North Pole platform, and in December of the same year, the new Vostok wintering complex was commissioned in Antarctica. To support their operations, as well as those of four other year-round and five seasonal stations in Antarctica and the expedition to the Spitsbergen archipelago, the draft budget allocates more than 12 bln rubles," Tsyganov said.

In addition, 2.3 bln rubles ($27.12 mln) will be allocated to developing the state environmental monitoring system in the Arctic.
