Russian companies eye mining projects in Democratic Republic of Congo — Security Council

According to Deputy Secretary Alexander Venediktov, the Russian side is also interested in advancing bilateral cooperation in information security

MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. Russian companies are highly interested in investing in mining projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Alexander Venediktov, said.

"As is well known, your country has a wide variety of mineral resources, and a number of Russian companies are keen to invest in this sector, as well as in implementing various projects," he said at a meeting with a delegation from the DRC at the First International Security Forum.

According to Venediktov, the Russian side is also interested in advancing bilateral cooperation in information security.

"We believe that this area is among the most important elements of territorial integrity and sovereignty," the Deputy Secretary of the SC added.

He also noted that Russia would be ready to expand cooperation with the DRC in a number of other high-tech areas, including financial technologies, peaceful nuclear energy, and space exploration.
