NEW DELHI, March 21. /TASS/. Nepal’s authorities have suggested Russia invest in the country’s hydropower industry and the production of chemical fertilizers, the Nepalese finance ministry reported following a meeting between Finance Minister Barshaman Pun and Russia’s Ambassador to Nepal Alexey Novikov.
"Nepal’s hydropower sector is an appropriate area for investment for the global community," he said, adding that the country’s government is also addressing the opening of a plant to produce chemical fertilizers on the republic’s territory. "If Russia is interested in investing we are ready to create an environment for that," the minister noted.
The Nepalese authorities believe that those issues would be discussed at the Investment summit that will take place in Nepal on April 28-29, in particular. The minister also asked Novikov to attract Russian investors to the event.
A source in the Russian embassy in Nepal told TASS that in response the Russian Ambassador welcomed the minister’s proposal and promised to discuss the issue with investors in Russia. "From the geopolitical viewpoint Nepal has huge potential for Russian investments," he said.
