Turkish Energy Ministry confirms postponement of Istanbul Gas Summit to March 22

The summit was postponed due to earthquakes in Turkey

ANKARA, February 10. /TASS/. The information about the postponement of the Istanbul Gas Summit from February 14-15 to March 22 is correct, a source in the Turkish Energy Ministry told TASS on Friday.

"Yes, the information that this summit is postponed to March 22 is correct," the source said.

Earlier, Western media reported that due to earthquakes in Turkey, the plans to hold the event have been adjusted. The summit, which is to focus on the creation and operation of a gas hub in Turkey, has been postponed to March 22. The ministry noted that now all state agencies are involved in the elimination of the consequences of the earthquakes.

On January 30, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez said that the Istanbul Gas Summit is scheduled for February 14-15. It is planned to invite representatives of gas producing countries and consumers from Europe, he added.

Speaking at the Russian Energy Week forum in October, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed creating the largest gas hub in Europe in Turkey and redirecting the volume of gas, the transit of which is no longer possible through the Nord Stream, to this hub. According to him, it may imply building another gas pipeline system and creating a hub in Turkey, through which gas will be supplied to third countries, primarily European ones, if they are interested. Ankara welcomed this initiative and stated that it had a significant part of the infrastructure for creating a hub and a gas trading center in Istanbul.
