All Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, must join Non-Proliferation Treaty — IAEA

VIENNA, November 22. /TASS/. All Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, must join the Non-Proliferation Treaty and open their nuclear facilities for inspections, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said.

Speaking at the IAEA board meeting in Vienna, the Director General noted that the Agency had made "repeated calls" on "all countries in the Middle East, and that includes Israel, to join [the Non-Proliferation Treaty] and to open all their nuclear facilities to comprehensive safeguards inspections."

Previously, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey will contact the UN Security Council and the IAEA with requests to inspect Israel for presence of nuclear weapons. The Turkish leader noted that Israel openly admits to having nuclear weapons, but international structures, including the UN and the IAEA, do not initiate a corresponding investigation.
