TV reports total power outage in Transnistria

Moldova’s electric power system has been linked with Ukrainian and Transnistrian networks since Soviet times

CHISINAU, November 23. /TASS/. The self-proclaimed republic of Transnistria experienced a total power outage on Wednesday, the TSV television channel reports.

According to it, reports of blackouts are pouring in from many localities, from Rybnitsa to Dnestrovsk. There is no power supply in Parkany, near Tiraspol.

"The lights have gone out in the city [Tiraspol]. Homes, shops and industrial facilities are without power supply. The emergency services are working on the problem," member of Transnistria’s legislature Andrey Safonov told TASS.

On Wednesday, massive problems with electric power also began in Moldova due to glitches in Ukraine’s energy system, Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu reported.

Moldova’s electric power system has been linked with Ukrainian and Transnistrian networks since Soviet times. If damaged, the system shuts down automatically to avoid accidents.
