KIEV, October 27. /TASS/. Ukraine has strengthened the engineering infrastructure and defensive positions and stepped up the mining of terrain on the border with Belarus, Ukrainian border guard service spokesman Andrey Demchenko has said.
"Now, on the border with Belarus, the border guards and other components of the [Ukrainian] defense forces have strengthened engineering fortifications and defensive positions and stepped up the mining of the terrain. The personnel have practiced interaction," the Ukrinform news agency quotes Demchenko as saying.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko earlier drew attention to the fact that Ukraine had massed up a group of up to 15,000 military personnel on the border. Minsk has repeatedly said the national armies and NATO forces in Poland and the Baltic states were being built up. The Belarusian defense minister stated that the armed forces on a rotational basis were performing relevant tasks on the southern borders of the country and were ready to respond to possible provocations from the west and northwest.
