Creating an alternative to UN is impossible — Russian Foreign Ministry

Moscow firmly advocates "expanding representation on the UN Security Council exclusively for countries of the global majority"

BISHKEK, November 5. /TASS/. There is no alternative to the United Nations, and creating one under the current circumstances is impossible, Kirill Logvinov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organizations, said while addressing faculty members and students at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University.

"There is no alternative to the UN, although discussions to that effect are taking place," Logvinov said. "Under the current circumstances, it would be impossible to create a new organization similar to the UN," he added.

"Therefore, this must be taken into account when reforming the UN, with principles such as the rational nature of reforms placed at the forefront, while ensuring that the foundations of the UN system are not undermined. The UN cannot function effectively without reforming its key body, the Security Council," the diplomat said.

Moscow firmly advocates "expanding representation on the UN Security Council exclusively for countries of the global majority." "We are categorically opposed to allocating additional seats to countries of the Western minority. This would do nothing to improve the effectiveness of the Security Council," the Russian Foreign Ministry department head emphasized.
