Institutions working since 1945 no longer reflect current international situation — Putin

The Russian president added that all new international communities still have a lot of work to do in terms of defining their functions

MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. The international institutions established after 1945 do not reflect the situation in the world now, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the plenary session of the 23rd annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

"The institutions that have been in operation since World War II do not reflect the situation in the second quarter of this century. Is it possible to reform them effectively so that they correspond to modern realities? The question remains open. New international communities are also emerging, born out of the current global situation. They certainly have great prospects, whether it’s various regional associations or such already global structures as BRICS," the head of state said.

"We must acknowledge that all new international communities still have a lot of work to do in terms of defining their functions, the optimal areas for their application, and the limits of their own capabilities. Of course, we shouldn’t expect relatively recently formed structures to quickly reshape the surrounding world and establish its multipolar model. This is a long, thorny path with many unknowns. But it will undoubtedly lead to results."
