MOSCOW, February 9. /TASS/. The European Parliament’s decision to set up a "tribunal" on Ukraine is part of a big political game and anti-Russian propaganda, Russian Permanent Representative to the Vienna-based international organizations Mikhail Ulyanov said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
"The European Parliament always makes some kind of bizarre decisions that hardly have anything to do with realpolitik. <…> This is just a part of a larger political game, a propaganda attack on Russia," he said.
"Basically, the establishment of a tribunal is a matter for the UN Security Council, all other options are unworkable. This entity, created contrary to international law, will not have the necessary authority that the West needs in this case. Such issues are not resolved through the UN General Assembly either," Ulyanov said when asked about the prospects of this "tribunal" in terms of international law.
On January 19, the European Parliament called for the establishment of a "tribunal" on the events in Ukraine by adopting a resolution to this effect. Such resolutions have no legal force and are advisory in nature, but are widely used in the EU media and political environment to promote and disseminate particular political positions. Representatives of the Kiev authorities and their allies regularly advocate the establishment of a "special tribunal" on Ukraine at various international platforms. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on January 9 that any ideas of some kind of tribunal were ridiculous.
