Eight drones downed near Sevastopol, no damage reported, says governor

It is stressed that the air defense forces keep controlling the airspace and emergency services are on standby

SEVASTOPOL, January 16. /TASS/. Russia’s air defense systems shot down eight drones over the Black Sea in the past day as they approached Sevastopol, Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said on his Telegram channel on Monday.

"In all, the air defense forces and our Black Sea Fleet capabilities have shot down seven UAVs over the sea by now. No facilities either in the city or in the sea have sustained any damage. Let me stress: all the drones have been shot down over the sea," he emphasized.

As the governor’s press office specified to journalists, the drones were shot down on Monday morning. Another UAV was eradicated overnight to January 16.

The Sevastopol governor rejected the reports of blasts in the city.

"Ukrainian intelligence is trying to palm off the failed drone attack as what they call another ‘peremoga’ (military success). They write about explosions in the city and request sending in confirmations. We confirm that no one will send you anything in: it is all calm in the hero city," the governor stressed.

The air defense forces keep controlling the airspace and emergency services are on standby, he assured.

Sevastopol is the Black Sea Fleet’s main naval base and the Ukrainian military has attempted to attack it with drones on several occasions over the past few months. One of the latest drone attacks on Sevastopol was conducted overnight to January 7.
