Russian MFA calls for investigation into British troops’ crimes in Afghanistan

According to Ivan Nechayev, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s White Paper containing facts about Afghan civilians killed as a result of the illegitimate actions of the US and its allies was presented at the November 16 round of the Moscow consultations on Afghanistan

MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. Evidence of the crimes of British troops in Afghanistan needs to be carefully investigated and those responsible must be prosecuted, Russian Foreign Ministry Deputy Spokesman Ivan Nechayev said at a briefing on Thursday.

"We have taken note of new information confirming the crimes of British service members in Afghanistan. We believe that the information that has been made public needs to be carefully investigated and those responsible must be prosecuted. There is a need to put an end to the impunity that makes it possible for Western troops to neglect the lives of civilians. We are already working in this direction," the diplomat pointed out.

According to him, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s White Paper containing facts about Afghan civilians killed as a result of the illegitimate actions of the US and its allies was presented at the November 16 round of the Moscow consultations on Afghanistan.

"The public’s attention was drawn to the crimes that US and NATO troops committed in Afghanistan from 2001-2021, killing civilians, causing harm to their health and damaging the country’s economy, infrastructure and environment. It was emphasized that international legal institutions should investigate all such incidents," Nechayev noted.
