Donetsk Airport fully cleared of Ukrainian troops, DPR colonel confirms

It is specified that the operations were carried out jointly with a company of the Archangel Michael battalion, with tankers of a separate tank battalion and artillerymen of the 238th Artillery Brigade

DONETSK, November 7. /TASS/. A mop-up operation has ended at Donetsk Airport, with Ukrainian troops being pushed back behind the M4 highway, Colonel Artyom Zhoga of the Donetsk People's Militia said on Monday.

"The day before yesterday [military correspondent] Semyon Pegov reported that the Donetsk Airport territory had been fully mopped up. I confirm his words and upload video footage from the storming of the last enemy strongholds at the Donetsk Airport," Zhoga, who is commander of the "Sparta" reconnaissance battalion, wrote on his Telegram channel.

All buildings at the airport have been under the control of DPR forces since 2015, but positions in the area of the settlement of Opytnoye remained unoccupied. The total area of the airport’s territory is over 10 square kilometers. "We took them more than a month ago, but decided to hoist the banner when we pushed the enemy forces back behind the M4 highway, to be on the safe side," the colonel said.

The operations were carried out jointly with a company of the Archangel Michael battalion, with tankers of a separate tank battalion and artillerymen of the 238th Artillery Brigade, Zhoga specified.

Sparta Battalion was created in 2014, participating in battles for Slavyansk and Donetsk Airport.
