Ayman Hussein Abdullah Al-Safadi stressed that the presence of Russian armed forces in southern Syria adds stability

AMMAN, November 3. /TASS/. The presence of Russian armed forces in southern Syria contributes to stability and security in the region, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Hussein Abdullah Al-Safadi said on Thursday at a press conference following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

According to the Jordanian top diplomat, the sides focused on the situation in Syria, taking into account the situation in the south of Jordan and security threats. "We discussed the joint efforts that need to be made to reduce these threats and further stabilize the south of Syria," he said, "There is a serious threat of drug smuggling across the Jordanian-Syrian border, as well as smuggling by armed groups, terrorist groups operating freely in the area. According to Al-Safadi, the need for further coordination between Russia and Jordan to counter all challenges, including in southern Syria, and to make joint efforts to expand the platform of interaction was stressed. "We also discussed efforts to politically resolve the Syrian crisis, including those based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254, ensuring the sovereignty, territorial integrity, security of Syria and creating the necessary conditions for the free return of all refugees, as well as returning Syria to its rightful place in the region, including in all international arenas," he added.
