US sabotage stalls Mideast Quartet’s activities — Lavrov

It is reported that Russia emphasized the counter-productiveness of the United States’ attempts to sabotage the activities of the quartet of international mediators, which is a unique and legitimate diplomatic mechanism for the Middle East settlement

AMMAN, November 3. /TASS/. Russia and Jordan have noted the counter-productiveness of US attempts to sabotage the activities of the Middle East Quartet (Russia, the United States, the UN, and the European Union), for which reason all work in this format is stalled, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference following talks with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Ayman Hussein Abdullah al-Safadi.

"We noted the importance of more vigorous efforts by the international community for resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict. For our part, we emphasized the counter-productiveness of the United States’ attempts to sabotage the activities of the quartet of international mediators, which is a unique and legitimate diplomatic mechanism for the Middle East settlement, approved by the UN Security Council. This mechanism, generally speaking, is idle due to the United States’ stance," Lavrov said.

Lavrov and al-Safadi discussed the situation in Iraq.

"Both sides reaffirmed the importance of using a comprehensive national dialogue for achieving a broad inter-Arab agreement on the main issues of the domestic political agenda against the backdrop of remaining challenges," Lavrov said.
