Russia’s UN mission blames global rise in refugees on West’s irresponsible policy

"The expansion of areas engulfed in conflicts, poverty and economic inequality continues to force people to leave their native countries," Gennady Kuzmin pointed out

UNITED NATIONS, November 2. /TASS/. Western countries’ irresponsible policy is one of the reasons behind a rise in the number of refugees across the world, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gennady Kuzmin said at a UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday.

"The expansion of areas engulfed in conflicts, poverty and economic inequality continues to force people to leave their native countries," he pointed out. "The reasons for these negative phenomena are often rooted in the irresponsible policy of Western countries, who have acquired a taste for imposing their will and performing geopolitical experiments on weaker countries," the diplomat added.

"The resources of African countries were plundered, their economic independence was strangled, military force was used to destroy Libya’s statehood, Syria was partially occupied, Afghanistan was left to its own devices, while its national assets were seized or, more exactly, stolen," Kuzmin noted. "All these countries and regions are the sources of mass migration," the Russian diplomat emphasized.
