Military authorities to take over control of Kherson Region under martial law — official

Vladimir Saldo also said Kherson doesn’t plan to reconsider the current curfew, which runs from 10 pm to 5 am

MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. Military authorities are set to take over control of Kherson Region following the imposition of martial law, Vladimir Saldo, the acting governor of the Kherson Region, said on Wednesday.

"Martial law means military authorities will take over the control of the region according to law. We are doing this work together with the military," he told reporters.

He said almost all regional government staff had been relocated to the eastern bank of the Dnieper. Travel to the western bank has been limited in an effort to help the organized relocation of civilians from that bank.

Saldo also said Kherson doesn’t plan to reconsider the current curfew, which runs from 10 pm to 5 am.

Earlier reports said Ukraine continues to build up the amount of equipment on approaches to the Kherson Region, and several tens of thousands of troops are already in position along the engagement line.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to introduce martial law in four new regions of Russia. According to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, in the event of aggression against Russia or a threat of imminent aggression, the president shall introduce martial law in the Russian Federation or in its certain areas, immediately notifying the Federation Council and the State Duma about the measure.
