VIENNA, February 12. /TASS/. A political crackdown has begun in the United States despite President Joe Biden’s statements on freedom of expression, Russian Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Alexander Lukashevich said, addressing an online meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council.

"According to Fox News, FBI agents arrested journalist Douglas Mackay in Florida for spreading memes mocking the US Democratic Party. Although incumbent US President Joe Biden gave assurances that freedom of expression was the main principle of American democracy, a political crackdown and the strangling of freedom of expression began in the country," the Russian envoy pointed out.

Lukashevich noted that the Portal media company had published an infographic showing close ties between the new US administration and US tech giants, namely Google, Facebook and eBay. "This appears to be the main reason behind the editorial policy of digital platforms," he said.
