Russia’s financial sector on high alert for cyberattacks, says regulator

It is reported that DDoS-attacks remain the main type of attacks

MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. The risk of cyberattacks on Russia’s financial sector remains elevated, same as during the previous reporting periods, Director of the Central Bank’s Information Security Department Vadim Uvarov told a conference on Wednesday.

"The credit financial sector has felt the full extent of hacker attacks, which we observed this spring, peaking in March and May 2022. According to our estimates, the number of attacks soared 20-fold this March, and 80-fold in May. Currently the atmosphere for attacks still remains high, elevated, same as during the previous reporting periods," he said.

DDoS-attacks remain the main type of attacks, the official added. According to the regulator’s preliminary figures, the number of such attacks in Q3 2022 is almost two times higher than in the same period last year. Moreover, the Bank of Russia has registered a 25% increase in the number of attacks using malicious software.
