Russia reaps record high rapeseed harvest

The interest in rapeseed planting is driven by its high export potential among other things

MOSCOW, November 3. /TASS/. The gross yield of rapeseed climbed 55.5% year-on-year to an all-time record high of 4.6 mln metric tons, the Russian Agriculture Ministry reports on Thursday.

"The gross yield of rapeseed to date jumped to a record high of 4.6 mln metric tons, which is 55.5% higher than last year’s figure for the same period. The crop yield saw a 14.4% hike to 20.9 hundred kilograms per hectare on average across the country," the ministry revealed.

The outcome of the harvesting campaign allows us to forecast the rapeseed harvest to be at over 4 mln metric tons in weight after processing, the agricultural authority noted. This will make it possible to fully cover domestic needs. According to the federal agricultural office, the sown areas under the crop soared by 1.8 times over the past decade (2013-2022) from 1.3 mln hectares to 2.3 mln hectares.

The interest in rapeseed planting is driven by its high export potential among other things. Rapeseed supplies overseas soared by 80% to 383,000 metric tons year-to-date, the agricultural office added.
