Russia’s new turret to automatically intercept enemy drones — CUST

The turret will be part of an air defense system capable of achieving a target destruction probability of over 90%, the Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies said

MOSCOW, October 14. /TASS/. The Tatarstan-based company Arkodim has begun testing an anti-drone turret equipped with software that enables the automatic interception of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies (CUST) told TASS.

The turret will be part of an air defense system capable of achieving a target destruction probability of over 90%, it said.

"The turret is designed for mounting a machine gun. The weapon will be able to engage fixed-wing UAVs at a range of up to 1 km, expending 30-50 rounds to neutralize a single drone. This level of efficiency is achieved by firing at an interception point calculated by the software. The turret will be integrated into a short-range air defense system designed to protect critical infrastructure. Its key feature is the ability to provide early detection and select the most cost-effective and suitable interception method," the CUST noted, emphasizing the system's application for protecting critical infrastructure.

"Its [the system's] key feature is the ability to provide early detection and select the most cost-effective and suitable interception method. All combat operations of the anti-drone system will be automated, and the human operator will only need to make the decision to engage aerial targets. Arkodim is currently testing the system's components. According to the developer's estimates, the probability of a successful hit will exceed 90%," the CUST stated. The Center also specified that, in addition to turrets, the system will include a pre-guidance tower and an interceptor drone equipped with an onboard terminal guidance system to engage enemy UAVs at a range of several kilometers.
