AfD clinches victory in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state vote, exit poll shows

The AfD is leading the vote with approximately 37%, followed by the SPD at around 35.5%, and The Left Party at about 7.5%

BERLIN, September 20. /TASS/. Alternative for Germany (AfD) has snatched victory from the Social Democrats (SPD) in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state election, ARD exit polls show.

The AfD is leading the vote with approximately 37%, followed by the SPD at around 35.5%, and The Left Party at about 7.5%. Meanwhile, Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) crashed to just 5.5% - marking the conservatives' worst-ever result in a state election. The Greens are also securing 5.5% of the vote, while the BSW party is teetering on the 5% threshold required to enter the state parliament.

On September 20, Germany held elections for the Berlin House of Representatives and the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
