SCO, UN officials discuss situation in Afghanistan

It is reported that the sides "exchanged views on the dynamics of the development of the situation in Afghanistan, terrorist groups operating in that country, their ties and movements, structure and locations"

TASHKENT, November 13. /TASS/. The delegation from the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) met with members of the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team in Tashkent to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

"The sides discussed the threats coming from international terrorist organizations Al Qaeda and Islamic State (both outlawed in Russia - TASS), as well as from affiliated groups both globally and in Afghanistan in order to assess these group’s potential, their methods and approaches," the SCO RATS said in a press statement posted on its website.

Apart from that, the sides "exchanged views on the dynamics of the development of the situation in Afghanistan, terrorist groups operating in that country, their ties and movements, structure and locations," it said.

Earlier, addressing a summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev called for involving Afghanistan into regional integration processes. Prior to that, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan signed trade agreements worth $1.2 billion.

The Taliban movement, which is outlawed in Russia and is under UN sanctions, has been in power in Afghanistan since August 2021.
