Trail of explosions at Nord Stream leads to Ukraine, German probe establishes — Die Zeit

The perpetrators of the sabotage had fake passports, so their nationality remains unclear for the investigation

BERLIN, March 7. /TASS/. German experts have made a breakthrough in the investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, they have established that the trail leads to Ukraine, the Zeit newspaper reported on Tuesday.

"The investigators managed to identify a vessel that, in all likelihood, was used in a covert operation. They are talking about a yacht that was rented by a company, which was registered in Poland and apparently belonged to two Ukrainians," the newspaper reported.

"Investigators found traces of explosives on the table in the cockpit," the newspaper said.

According to the information of the ARD TV channel, the SWR television and radio company and the Zeit newspaper, back in autumn of 2022, one of the Western intelligence services conveyed to its European partner services that a Ukrainian group was responsible for the destruction.

The perpetrators of the sabotage had fake passports, so their nationality remains unclear for the investigation. They probably rented the boat using these "professional forged" passports, the newspaper wrote.

On September 27, 2022, Nord Stream AG reported unprecedented damage that occurred the day before on three strings of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 offshore gas pipelines. On September 26, 2022, Swedish seismologists registered two explosions on the pipeline routes. The Russian Prosecutor General's Office launched a criminal case based on charges of international terrorism.
