The upcoming launch will be the first in a series of flight tests of the Amur space rocket system with heavy Angara launch vehicles at Vostochny

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. The first launch of the Angara-A5 heavy-class carrier rocket from the Vostochny spaceport is scheduled for about 12:00 Moscow time (09:00 a.m. GMT) on April 9, a source in the Russian rocket and space industry told TASS.

"At the moment, the launch is scheduled for approximately 06 p.m. local time (about noon Moscow time - TASS)," the source. TASS does not have official confirmation of this information.

Earlier, the Russian space agency Roscosmos reported that the first launch of Angara-A5 from Vostochny is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9.

The upcoming launch will be the first in a series of flight tests of the Amur space rocket system with heavy Angara launch vehicles at Vostochny.

"Angara" is a family of Russia’s launch vehicles ranging from light class to heavy class. The new family uses environmentally friendly propellant components. An Angara rocket was first launched on July 9, 2014 from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. It was a light vehicle. On December 23, 2014, a heavy Angara-A5 left Plesetsk on a test flight. In total six Angara rockets were launched from Plesetsk - three light and three heavy ones.
