Russian embassy says journalists arriving in CAR obliged to get local accreditations

The journalists applying for entry visas of the CAR should specify the precise goals of their visits, said Russia’s charge d’affaires ad interim in the country

RABAT, August 3. /TASS/. Journalists arriving in Central African Republic for professional purposes are obliged to obtain accreditations with the national ministry supervising the media, Russia’s charge d’affaires ad interim in the country, Viktor Tokmakov said on Friday.

"The journalists applying for entry visas of the Central African Republic should specify the precise goals of their visits," he told TASS by telephone. "The best option is to secure a private visa at the invitation of a local organization."

"Also, the journalists are obliged to get accreditations at the appropriate ministry upon arrival in CAR," Tokmakov said.

"The Russian Embassy in Bangui recommends that Russian citizens should stay away from trips to the country - as a minimum, without ensuring relevant security measures," he said. "Still, if someone wants visiting CAR, for instance, for holding a private investigation, we recommend turning to the Russian Foreign Ministry for information on a possible organization of the visit."

The Russian Embassy in the Central African Republic said on Tuesday three Russian citizens had died in the area of Sibut to the north of the capital. The Foreign Ministry in Moscow said later journalist IDs issued in the name of Kirill Radchenko, Alexander Rastorguyev and Orkhan Dzhemal had been found on the men’s bodies.

They had obtained tourist visas and were going to shoot a documentary.
