UN Secretariat serves interests of select group of Western countries — Russian diplomat

The main task is ensuring the reform benefits all member states, Kirill Logvinov said

BISHKEK, November 5. /TASS/. UN reform must be carried out in the interests of all countries, not the organization’s Secretariat, which serves the interests of a small group of Western states, Russian Foreign Ministry’s International Organizations Department Director Kirill Logvinov said.

"UN reform is long overdue. The main task is ensuring the reform benefits all member states, not the UN Secretariat, which serves a select group of Western countries," the diplomat told the faculty and students at the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University. "This reform was announced in March 2025. We fully support the need for a certain degree of restructuring of the world organization by eliminating duplicative and redundant structures and functions," he stressed.

According to Logvinov, based on the UN Charter, Russia advocates preserving the intergovernmental nature of the reforms and maintaining a balance among the organization’s principal bodies.
