MOSCOW, November 3. /TASS/. A crew manning the Tor-M1 air defense missile system of the Russian Battlegroup Center’s 27th Guards Motorized Rifle Division has taken out Ukrainian Lyuty drones in the Dobropolye area of the special military operation, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
"The Tor-M surface-to-air missile (SAM) system crew from a separate anti-aircraft missile battalion of the Battlegroup Center’s 27th Guards Motorized Rifle Division shot down Lyuty strike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) belonging to Ukrainian armed forces units in the special military operation zone," the ministry said in a statement.
Tor air defense missile system
Tor (NATO reporting name: Gauntlet) is a short-range air defense missile system produced by the Almaz-Antey Group. The system is intended to protect the forward echelons of ground forces from strikes involving anti-radar missiles, cruise missiles, glide bombs, aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles, including those operating in swarms.
The Tor air defense system can independently survey a designated airspace and engage all aerial targets not identified by the "friend-or-foe" system. The ammunition load of the new models comprises 16 vertically launched anti-aircraft missiles with a range of up to 12 km and an altitude range of up to 10 km. The system’s enhanced radar is capable of detecting stealth aircraft.
