Australia contacts Russia regarding captured mercenary — diplomat

Maria Zakharova emphasized that "Canberra obediently follows in the footsteps of the collective West, which pursues a Russophobic policy"

MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. Australia has contacted Russia regarding an Australian mercenary captured in the special military operation zone, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

"I can confirm that Australia has indeed contacted us on this matter. Efforts are currently underway to verify reports of the captured Australian citizen. We are monitoring the situation alongside the relevant agencies," she pointed out when asked to comment on reports that Australian mercenary Jenkins had been captured in the zone of Russia’s special military operation. "If we have any facts to share, we will certainly do so," she added.

According to the diplomat, "if these reports are verified, then it will be Canberra that is to blame." "Why? Because it supports Australian mercenaries fighting for the Kiev regime. And, unfortunately, we must state that this trend is unlikely to change at this point. It’s impossible to say that the Australian political establishment’s hostile stance towards Russia can somehow improve," Zakharova remarked.

She emphasized that "Canberra obediently follows in the footsteps of the collective West, which pursues a Russophobic policy." "Now let’s take a look at specific figures regarding Australia's contribution to the Kiev regime’s support. It’s $600 million dollars. <...> What has his ‘support’ led to? We can observe that, too: to Ukraine’s collapse," she concluded.
