Ukraine’s accession to NATO is ‘red line’ for Russia — Russian envoy

Accommodation of the NATO infrastructure in that country would force Russia to take tit-for-tat measures, Vassily Nebenzia noted

UN, March 1. /TASS/. Russia views Ukraine’s accession to NATO as the ‘red line’ but the US arrogantly refused to talk on this and on other matters, Permanent Representative to this organization Vassily Nebenzia said.

"Ukraine’s entry to NATO for us is the red line for us because of military-strategic considerations in the first instance. Accommodation of the NATO infrastructure in that country would force us to take such tit-for-tat measures that would set Russia and NATO on the brink of the military conflict. Therefore, in December 2021 we offered the US and NATO to enter into agreements providing security guarantees for Russia. However, the hand we give was arrogantly rejected by the US and NATO," Nebenzia said.
