5.5-magnitude earthquake rocks China, tremors recorded in Almaty

BEIJING, April 7. /TASS/. An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 has been registered in China's Xinjiang Region, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center reported.

The epicenter was located 58 km northwest of the Chinese county of Kuqa, home to 102,000 people. The source was at a depth of 24 kilometers.

There was no information about casualties or damage.

Kazakhstan’s Emergencies Ministry reported that the earthquake occured 460 kilometers southeast of Almaty. The agency said that it had recorded moderate tremors, however, according to the observation of the TASS correspondent, the residents of the city did not feel them.
