Sugar production to keep high export potential of Russia — Central Bank

According to the report, sugar production nationwide could reach 6.3 million tons in the 2026-2027 season

MOSCOW, October 15. /TASS/. Sugar production in Russia for the 2026-2027 season is projected to reach 6.3 million metric tons in line with industry analyst estimates, the Bank of Russia said in its regional economy report seen by TASS.

"The sugar content of the new harvest across the country is generally on par with 2025 levels (13.3% compared to 13.4% last year). The sugar beet harvest is expected to exceed last year's volume. According to industry analysts, sugar production nationwide could reach 6.3 million tons in the 2026-2027 season. As a result, Russia's high export potential will be maintained," the Central Bank said.

According to flash data from industry analysts, the planted areas and harvesting rates for sugar beet are lower than last year, driven by delayed sowing in the central regions. As of late September, approximately one-third of the planted areas was harvested, yielding 17.3 million metric tons of sugar beet (a 13.2% decrease compared to last year). However, yields are significantly higher than last year on account of the southern regions.

Consumer sugar prices continued to grow year-on-year in September (they were declining in September 2025). The current price growth was driven by the gradual depletion of stocks, as well as an increase in exports amid rising global prices.
