MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. Rosatom will fully fulfill all obligations to supply fuel and spare parts for the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Iran, Chief Executive Officer of the Russian state corporation Alexey Likhachev said in an interview with Al Jazeera.
"Regarding Unit 1 [of the Bushehr NPP], the reduction in the number of Russian specialists hasn’t affected its operations in any way. We’re not present there permanently, but we will fully fulfill all our obligations to supply fuel and spare parts," he said.
Iran, the Iranian government, the Iranian operating organization operate and legally own the first unit of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, the chief executive noted, adding that Rosatom built the first unit, and now it supplies fuel and provides maintenance services as needed, but with strict approval from the operating organization.
Rosatom has big plans to develop further cooperation with Tehran, although communications have become less active due to military action, Likhachev said.
"We have ambitious plans for further developing our cooperation. We understand that Iranian nuclear scientists are currently making every effort to restart the Bushehr project. We have enormous respect for their work to move the Bushehr site forward. They have begun restarting it, and they are bringing people to the construction site. And our specialists are doing everything they can to ensure their work is effective," he said, adding that communications have become less active due to military action, but contacts are not interrupted. "We do not stop working in Iran for a second," the official noted.
