BERLIN, December 27. /TASS/. Germany certainly needs cheap Russian gas, so the one leg of the Nord Stream pipeline that was not damaged in the sabotage of more than two years ago may be sold to US investors and operated within a year, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt.
"Let’s take Germany. The country has managed to maintain a competitive economy owing to cheap gas supplies from Russia. Changes are not taking place that fast, and electricity is expensive in Germany," Vucic argued. "The country needs cheap electricity as soon as possible. I predict that the Nord Stream will be bought by a US investor in a year at the latest, while Russian gas will be pumped to Europe. Mark my words. A year from now the Nord Stream will be restarted," the Serbian leader stressed.
On September 26, 2022, Nord Stream AG reported unprecedented damage that occurred the day before on three strings of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 offshore gas pipelines. Swedish seismologists registered two explosions on the pipeline routes. As Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted, Moscow has no doubt that the explosion of Nord Stream was carried out with the support of the United States. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office launched a criminal case based on charges of international terrorism.
Last month, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that he had not heard about Gazprom’s desire to sell Nord Stream-2 to American investors. He commented on the information that US billionaire investor Stephen Lynch had expressed interest in purchasing Nord Stream-2.
