Putin says 'strong AI' may appear soon

"More and more experts and scientists say that the development of the ability to reason will lead to the emergence of strong artificial intelligence," the Russian leader noted

MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. A "strong AI" that could outmatch humans in key activities may appear soon, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

Speaking at the AI Journey international conference, the Russian leader noted that generative AI has recently significantly improved its thinking abilities, and recalled the saying of mathematician Rene Descartes, which became a symbol of the scientific revolution of the new era: "I think, therefore I exist." And until now, according to Putin, thinking, as well as memory, speech and the ability to understand the feelings of others were considered fundamental human characteristics.

"More and more experts and scientists say that the development of the ability to reason will lead to the emergence of strong artificial intelligence. That is, such technologies that will outperform humans in key activities," the Russian president emphasized.
