HAIKOU, February 3. /TASS/. This year the Hainan administration plans to apply a package of stimulus measures, thanks to which the number of high-tech companies on the island will exceed 1,100, the Nanguo Dushibao newspaper reported.
According to the news outlet, with maximum active efforts, the number of enterprises specializing in the production of science-intensive products may reach 1,200. According to the forecast, the volume of transactions in the local technology market in 2021 will amount to about 3 billion yuan ($ 463 million). The pharmaceutical industry is expected to grow substantially in the region. In particular, the island will be engaged in the production of several important drugs.
According to the Hainan authorities, in the coming months a number of big laboratories, including at the national level, will be set up in the province. In accordance with plan, several major Chinese research institutes, as well as companies specializing in the introduction of promising inventions into production and commercial operation, will be involved in innovation.
In addition, the Hainan government will set up a couple of international pilot zones that will focus on innovation and job creation for highly skilled professionals. Thus, the local authorities expect that this year they will be able to achieve a new breakthrough in the development of strategically important industries.
The most prominent role in the process of industrial modernization of the island will continue to be played by the administrative center of Haikou and the city of Sanya, where active work has been carried out recently to create sites that contribute to long-term scientific and technological development. According to the announced program, projects in the field of deep water research and in the aerospace sphere will be promoted especially actively.
On June 1, the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the State Council published the General Development Program for Hainan's Free Trade Port, according to which an effective mechanism to stimulate sustainable and long-term growth should be finally formed in Hainan by 2025. It is expected that thanks to new methods, many of which are being introduced in China for the first time, the province will be able to fulfill a number of key socio-economic tasks necessary to form a powerful financial and economic center in the country’s south. It is assumed that by 2035 both the economic and innovative potential of this region will be maximized, and it will become one of the most attractive places for international investors.
