BERLIN, July 17. /TASS/. Trilateral gas talks among Russia, the European Commission and Ukraine can give a new impetus to the peaceful process in Ukraine, Germany’s Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said on Tuesday.

"Current talks are particularly crucial within the framework of the ceasefire arrangement and the peace process in Ukraine. These talks can mean a new impetus for the peace process at large," the minister said.

"This is important for stability in the region, for stability in Ukraine," Altmaier noted, expressing hope that negotiations will be held in a businesslike and constructive atmosphere. "We trust the European Commission but assume that negotiations will be challenging," the minister said.
