MOSCOW, December 3. /TASS/. The role that BRICS plays in establishing a new world order must grow, says Nikolay Bordyuzha, Chairman of the Coordination Council of the Eurasian Information and Analysis Consortium and former Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
"I believe that BRICS should play a more prominent role. In certain situations, BRICS may assume the functions that the United Nations fulfills - or, rather, should fulfill, but doesn’t, because there is no consensus," he said during the TASS round table on Eurasian security following the 8th Practical Scientific Conference Forum of Russian analysts.
According to the former CSTO Secretary General, the political influence of BRICS must increase.
"This organization must affect not only the economic situation in its member states, but the world order in general, and the stability of the entire world," he noted.
In addition, Bordyuzha pointed out that the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia was rather successful.
"This international organization, […] these confidence-building measures were discussed on this platform, and I believe they achieved a lot," he emphasized. "In my opinion, there is a need to expand the work of this conference, including with participation of hostile states, European states, and this very platform. The already established platform could be used for discussions of confidence-building measures, without which there will never be any peace in the Eurasian space."
