ST. PETERSBURG, November 17. /TASS/. The Bolshoi Theater’s management system has been repeatedly a discussion topic, including during meetings attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, but there is no decision yet on its reforming, Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
"You know that initially, different options for managing the system of major theaters have been brought up at a wide range of meetings, including those with the president’s participation. Yet no decisions have been made," he said when asked by TASS.
Additionally, in the wake of rumors about the possible appointment of Valery Gergiev as general director of the Bolshoi Theater, Peskov reminded that such personnel decisions are not made by the head of state.
"It is not the president who appoints [to this post]," the Kremlin spokesman added when asked whether Putin was aware of such rumors.
On Friday, Putin delivered a speech at the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum - Forum of United Cultures, which was attended by both Vladimir Urin, general director of the Bolshoi Theater, and Valery Gergiev, head of the Mariinsky Theater. However, the president did not hold meetings with them.
It was reported in the media earlier that Gergiev could be appointed as head of the joint management system for the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theaters.
